What is Vortex?

Vortex - The Game Competition was created as a reaction to the huge interest around and growth of the videogame industry in Canada. It is a great opportunity open to emerging videogame developers.

Vortex itself is now in its fourth year gaining in strength and impact each time - and has built a reputation as one of the most exciting aspects of the McLuhan International Festival of the Future (MIFF). Since MIFF is a charitable organization, founded by Bill Marshall (who also founded the Toronto International Film Festival) our sponsors and partners have enabled us to cover our costs, so there's no charge for you to participate.

The Vortex Competition is the only place in Canada where emerging game designers and developers can present their concepts to a stellar line up of industry honchos, financiers and venture capitalists in the hope of winning the competition and along the way getting their creation to market. Think a kinder, gentler "Dragon's Den" with massive networking opportunities and prizing, coupled with industry sessions and coaching from the most successful entrepreneurs in Canada. The Vortex coaches, mentors and jury alone are worth the effort. Jury panelists include experts from Bell, CHUM, Telus, Yahoo, and the top local game developers and publishers, plus Covington Capital, Courage Capital, RBC Capital Markets and Ventures West.
